Visiting the Balboa Park Dog Play Area
The dogs are friendly and the people are friendlier. What to know before you go.
The Balboa Park Dog Play Area is in the quiet northwest corner of the park, by the Havelock Street cul-de-sac. The off-leash area is unfenced and well maintained, with space for dogs to run in group play and a longer turf area for throwing balls.
Bring a container to get water from a nearby fountain, and please pick up after your dog. It gets busy daily around lunchtime and from 4 to 6 pm.
Please note: dogs are not allowed on the athletic fields, including the multipurpose field in front of the pool. Kids use these fields for sports and play, and people picnic around the trees. The Dog Play Area has plenty of room for dogs to run and fetch.
