The ask

Add more art to the park. Sites we've identified:

  • The pool building (concrete walls by the basketball court and parking lot)
  • The corner of San Jose & Ocean, along San Jose at the skatepark
  • The Havelock bridge

Why it matters

Art was the #4 priority in our 2025 Priorities survey (N=200). We asked the community in June 2026 about the kind of art they wanted, read a summary of what they said.

What we’ve done

  1. 2026

Balboa Park was selected and approved for a Big Art Loop sculpture, slated for installation in early 2027.

  2. Jun 2026

Shared survey results about art preferences (41 responses).

  3. Jun 2026

Fielded a survey asking the community what kind of art they want.

  4. May 2026

Big Art Loop reached out about placing a piece in Balboa Park.

  5. May 2026

The SF Arts Commission’s StreetSmArts program said the pool wall isn’t eligible, since it focuses on graffiti and vandalism abatement.

  6. Mar 20, 2025

Shared our survey results with Rec & Park.
